FAYETTVILLE, Tenn. – The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s senior leader shared the command’s history with community leaders during a visit to the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Museum, April 9.
Lt. Gen. Daniel L. Karbler, USASMDC commanding general, also presented updated command photos for the museum’s Army Space and Missile exhibit.
"It's a great honor and privilege for me to be able to contribute these photos and add them to your exhibit," he said. "I appreciate the strong relationship between Redstone Arsenal and your community. We are grateful to live in an area that is so supporting of our armed forces."
Karbler talked about several of the previous commanding generals including his predecessor, Gen. James Dickinson, who is now the commander of U.S. Space Command.
"In the Air Defense community, we've only had two four-star generals," he said. "We're all very proud of him."
Karbler visited the museum at the request of former USASMDC team member, Rhonda Norris, who passed away in March due to cancer. Rhonda and her mother, former Lincoln County Mayor Peggy Bevels, played a significant role in establishing the museum's Army Space and Missile exhibit.
As part of the visit, Col. Sam Glover, Rhonda's USASMDC supervisor in the command’s G-8 office, presented $1,100 to the Multi County Cancer Support Network in Rhonda's honor from donations made by her coworkers.
"Ms. Rhonda and her mother loved not only the SMDC family, but Fayetteville," said Glover. "Her love has continued to resonate with us."
Prior to the presentation Dr. Farris Beasley, vice president of the Lincoln County Museum Association provided a guided tour. While there, Karbler also met with Lincoln County Mayor Bill Newman and members of the Lincoln County Museum Association.
