PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Dylan Marrone, and Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Matthew Lavengood were named Naval Medical Forces Atlantic (MEDLANT) Active and Reserve Components 2020 Sailors of the Year, April 8.
“Competition at this level was extremely close,” said Rear. Admiral Darin Via, commander, MEDLANT. “All finalists represented their Commands with distinction, and each should be extremely proud of their professional and personal achievements.”
Marrone is currently assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Bethesda, and Lavengood is currently assigned to Operational Health Support Unit Jacksonville.
Marrone and Lavengood’s nomination packages will be forwarded for consideration at the fiscal year 2020 Bureau of Medicine and Surgery’s (BUMED) Sailor of the Year board in Falls Church, Virginia, where they will compete against other very capable Sailors throughout BUMED.
“Additionally, I would also like to recognize the families and the respective unit leadership who supported each of the finalists,” said Via. “Their prior and current support is critical to the success of each of our Sailors.”
Other active component finalists included Hospital Corpsman 1st Class David Cavaliere, Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Jenna Kirby, Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Elaine Leynesdalanon, Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Scott Musolf, Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Marc Petrino, Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Warren Rifenburgh, and Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Joseph Toms.
