USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77)

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Supply Department aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) earned the CY20 Jackie G. Brown (JGB) Fleet Logistics Excellence Award, Feb. 2, 2021. GHWB was the only aircraft carrier (CVN) to win this award for the Atlantic Fleet.
The award recognizes excellence in readiness among CVN supply departments across the fleet.
The award’s namesake, Jacquelyn “Jackie” G. Brown, served more than 35 years of federal service. She spent 26 of those years in service with aircraft carrier supply departments.
“We are truly honored to receive this award,” said Cmdr. Anthony Bannister, the supply officer aboard GHWB, from Kalamazoo, Michigan. “This is not only a testament to the hard work put in by the supply department, but by the entire GHWB crew.”
This program measures and awards aircraft carrier readiness divisions that demonstrate sustained, superior performance as evaluated monthly and during supply readiness inspections and assessments during the calendar year. Aircraft carriers meeting Naval Air Forces Logistics Excellence benchmarks were graded with results tallied and validated by Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet and Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet subject matter experts.
There are 13 metrics to be measured in, and GHWB consistently displayed perfect scores.
“Thirteen out of 13 is always the goal,” Bannister said. “We’re given the instructions and the expectation is that we score 13 out of 13 every single month. There is no reason to step onto the battlefield if you don’t intend to win.”
“It shows the perseverance of the team,” said Master Chief Logistics Specialist Matthew Stockdale, Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer, from Jackson, Tennessee. “These guys worked hard and it showed.”
In the end, the GHWB supply readiness team proved to be the best in the Atlantic Fleet.
“I was ecstatic to find out that we won the award,” said Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Maria Berger, from Virginia Beach, Virginia. “Our leadership mapped out what we had to do and we did it. We strive to be the best in all things we do and we’re glad it showed.”
GHWB is currently in Norfolk Naval Shipyard undergoing its Docking Planned Incremental Availability.
