JACKSONVILLE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Fla. – Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry has declared Jan. 25, 2021 as 125th Fighter Wing Day to recognize and honor the heroic citizen-Airmen of the Florida Air National Guard.

Today, the 125th Fighter Wing, known as the “Home of the Thunder,” executes a diverse mission set with 1,671 Airmen assigned to 25 units, operating across seven separate geographic locations.

“Our community has championed the 125th Fighter Wing’s cause to protect and defend this great state and nation,” said Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry. “We are proud to be home to the heroic, world renowned 125th Fighter Wing that continues to execute extremely diverse mission sets across the state and around the world.”

In addition to F-15 Air Superiority mission, the citizen-Airmen provide experienced infil and exfil CV-22 operations and maintenance support to critical Air Force Special Operations Command missions from Hurlburt Field, operate counter-space systems at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, provide joint force-communications from MacDill Air Force Base, and deliver rapid forecasting from Camp Blanding Joint Training Center.

"We are thrilled and greatly appreciative of this recognition,” said Col. Matthew French, 125th Fighter Wing commander. “The enduring support from our community leaders and citizens makes us proud to call Jacksonville home. This recognition would not be possible without our phenomenal Airmen, and their continuous commitment to excellence on display every day."
