SAN DIEGO – Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) named Dr. Willian M. Hunt as Civilian Psychologist of the Year Nov. 20.
Every January, the Navy's senior psychology leaders convene to vote on the recipient of the award. Their decisions are based on the effects the nominees have made in the field of psychology in the past year.
“When I was told I was selected as Civilian Psychologist of the Year here at NMCSD, it was very unexpected,” said Hunt. “It is such an honor, the first thing I did was call my mom. She was just as excited as I was.”
Hunt has been a clinical psychologist NMCSD for the past 14 years. He is a faculty supervisor for psychology residents, and sees patients weekly.
“This past year, I stepped up and wore many hats,” said Hunt. “I took over as interim director of mental health for a short period of time, as well as filling in as the director of the internship program.”
Hunt received a plaque to be recognized for his accomplishment.
“Dr. Hunt is outstanding member of our community,” said Capt. Melissa Lauby, Navy Clinical Psychology Specialty Leader, Naval Service Training Command. “I know from working with him, he is doing great things at NMCSD.”
Civilian healthcare providers work alongside their active duty counterparts in many specialties at NMCSD. The recognition of exceptional work is a testament to the dedication of NMCSD’s providers to their patients.
NMCSD’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
