VILSECK, Germany – U.S. Soldiers, assigned to the 2d Cavalry Regiment, competed in the second annual 2CR Fight Night in Vilseck, Germany, Dec. 11, 2020.

2CR Fight Night is an annual modern Army combatives event that enables Soldiers to challenge each other at a chance to win awards from senior leadership and receive recognition among their peers.

The eight competing Soldiers completed a strict 14-day quarantine with fighters undergoing tests at the start and end of their quarantine to ensure negative COVID-19 test results.

The event highlighted two returning fighters: Sgt. Zachary Moro, who was the champion in the heavyweight bracket of the event both this and last year, and Staff Sgt. Jonathan Munas, who placed second last year.

Munas completed Ranger School just days prior to going into quarantine for the event to battle it out in the octagon and compete for the lightweight title. He believed one key component separated him from every other fighter.

“I feel I’m not better than anyone here,” said Munas. “I’m a little bit meaner, and I want it a little bit more.”

Munas detailed his fighting strategy during the match and also shared his overall approach after his completion of Ranger School.

“Immediately, [I] noticed he had the same fighting style as me and quickly realized I had to change my style,” said Munas, describing his component. “After Ranger School, I was not sure if my stamina would be up or down; I definitely had to finish the first fight early to save some stamina for the last.”

Munas credited his unit for helping him compete in the combatives event.

“I want to give a huge shoutout to 4th Squadron for their endless support,” said Munas.

After two fights that lasted a grueling 20 minutes total, Munas became the 2020 2CR Fight Night Lightweight Champion.
