U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Sheryl E. Gordon, Adjutant General of the Alabama National Guard, visits the 117th Air Refueling Wing during drill weekend Dec. 13 at Sumpter Smith JNGB, Ala.
Gordon was accompanied by Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Newton, Director of the Joint Staff of the Alabama National Guard, Chief Master Sgt. Bernadette Hollinger, Command Chief Master Sergeant for the Alabama Air National Guard, and Chief Master Sgt. David Bullard, Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
State leadership obtained the current status of operations and capabilities by the wing executive staff. A base tour was conducted but their interaction with airmen within the unit was minimal due to COVID-19 safety precautions.
The tour was Hollinger’s first visit to the base serving in her current capacity. Both she and Bullard addressed the base chief master sergeants to communicate their vision for operations.
The 117th ARW provides quality worldwide air refueling, airlift, support, logistics, intelligence and medical services in support of our community, state and nation.
