SAN DIEGO – Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command received the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) Retention Excellence Award for fiscal year 2020 Dec. 4.
The award is presented to commands that reenlist, and therefore retain, a high number of Sailors.
“This award is a reflection of the dedication of our enlisted staff and mentorship from our chief petty officers to continue their service in support of the United States Navy and our country,” said Capt. Devin Morrison, NMRTC’s executive officer.
The award was presented virtually by BUMED.
“[NMRTC’s] dedication and commitment to career motivation and excellence not only exemplify [the command’s] superb performance, but also attest to [the command’s] concern for the personal and professional needs of our Sailors,” said Rear Adm. Bruce Gillingham, BUMED’s chief.
The command’s successes in Sailor retention represent its commitment to the grown and development of Sailors, said Gillingham. This success will serve as the foundation of fleet readiness. Congratulations and well done.
NMRTC is now authorized to fly the associated pennant from the command’s flagpole. Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) is a tenant command on board NMRTC.
NMCSD’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
