    FORT CAMPBELL, KY, UNITED STATES

    Story by Sgt. SHARIFA NEWTON

    20th CBRNE Command

Originally from Illinois, Sgt. 1st class Peter A. MacRitchie serves in the Army as a (79S) Career Counselor.

"I was a 13B, Cannon Crewmember before I was a 79S,” said MacRitchie. “I chose 13B just to get in the Army, but I picked 79S, so I can take of our Soldiers and ensure they make informed decisions in regards to their careers.”

Before joining the Army, MacRitchie already had some life experience. He was married and now has two children.

When asked why he joined MacRitchie said, I just wanted to defend. After 9/11, that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Now my wife and I were not in a good place at the time, so the Army also allowed me to change my life choices.

MacRitchie has deployed a total of 6 times: three times to Iraq, one time to Afghanistan, and two times to Syria.

“What I like about the Army is it is a stable environment that instills discipline, leadership, and other traits someone may not receive in the civilian sector. Besides, I get to experience different units where the Soldiers have different wants, needs, and desires.”

MacRitchie has a passion for his job and takes pride in what he does.

“Knowing I have given a Soldier all options they are available for, to make an informed decision about their career is what I love most about my job.”

In the future, MacRitchie wants to be considered for Sergeant Major(SGM) and finish his career with 100 static line jumps without his body falling apart.

MacRitchie has made many contributions to the Army and even won U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Best Senior Career Counselor for a Multifunctional Brigade.

"I honestly did not think I would win", said MacRitchie. "I am truly honored!”

MacRitchie's side hobbies are Golfing, Woodworking, and hanging out with his wife in their pool.
