NMTSC Nurse Corps Officer Receives RDML Hall Award for Publication

    SAN ANTONIO, TX, UNITED STATES

Story by Petty Officer 2nd Class Shayla Hamilton

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 14, 2020) – Cmdr. Dagoberto Salinas, a Navy Nurse Corps officer assigned to Navy Medicine Training Support Center (NMTC), was named as co-recipient of the 2020 RDML Mary F. Hall award for nursing publication – non peer-reviewed category.
This award was created to recognize the contributions to nursing made through professional publications.

It is not the first time that Salinas has been recognized for his writing. In 2017, he was awarded the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses Writers Contest Award for a peer-reviewed article that has been cited both nationally and internationally. “Sharing one’s work through publication is an excellent way to shape nursing practice globally. All it takes is time, patience, and discipline.”

There are two publication categories for the RDML Mary F. Hall award: peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed. Peer-reviewed publications are approved by a board of professional experts in the discipline relating to the article topic; whereas, non peer-reviewed publications are reviewed by a panel of journal editors that may or may not be experts on the topic of interest.

Salinas and LT Sarah Margrave from Naval Health Clinic Kings Bay, Georgia, placed first in the non peer-reviewed category for the work titled, ‘A Means to an End – Impacting Patient Satisfaction Through Nursing Strategic Initiatives,’ published in the August 2020 Edition of Nurse Leader.

“I feel very honored to have received this award and am grateful that the Nurse Corps takes the time to recognize all participants for their contributions,” said Salinas. “The main point of our article was to emphasize the importance of supporting our staff members professionally. If we wish to achieve clinical excellence, we must first focus on producing quality healthcare professionals.”

Each recipient will receive a congratulatory letter from Rear Adm. Cynthia Kuehner, director, Navy Nurse Corps.

NMTSC is the Navy component command providing administrative and operational control over Navy staff and students assigned to the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) and other medical programs in the San Antonio area.
