    Navy Medicine Training Support Command

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 13, 2020) – A message from the Navy Surgeon General announced Navy Medicine Training Support Center (NMTSC) as one of 506 commands to receive its fifth consecutive Health Promotion and Wellness Blue “H” award.

The annual award is presented to Navy and Marine Corps facilities excelling in the areas of nutrition, weight management, tobacco-free living and cessation programs, sexual health, fitness programs, alcohol abuse and injury prevention.

“Receiving the Blue H award is a great honor and a representation of the great team we have at NMTSC,” said Lt. Cmdr. Tsion Williams, NMTSC’s Health Promotion and Wellness coordinator. “It is reflective of the hard work and dedication that the staff of NMTSC displays on a daily basis. This recognition would not be possible without the support of the Health Promotion Council members and their supportive teams striving to improve the health and wellness of our command. ONE TEAM, ONE FIGHT!”

The Blue H award is available at three levels of achievement: Bronze Anchor, Silver Eagle, and Gold Star. Commands achieving 80 percent of the total points possible, earn the Gold-level award. NMTSC will be recognized with its fourth Gold Star for the Surgeon General's Blue H award, making this the fourth consecutive year the command has been recognized at this level, and the fifth consecutive year being recognized since the start of its program.

“I am so proud of the work that Lt. Cmdr. Williams and the team did to promote and highlight NMTSC’s commitment to health culminating in us receiving the Blue H award for the fifth time,” said Capt. Ann Case, NMTSC’s commanding officer. “Better health is a key component to readiness—one of the key aspects of our role as active duty members. It ties into one of the four Ps of the Surgeon General: Performance and being ready for the fight.”

NMTSC’s Health and Wellness council is made up of staff members from the command’s Safety, Physical Readiness, Command Education and Training, Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, Religious Ministries, and Suicide Prevention program coordinators. NMTSC continues to excel not only at delivering high-quality hospital corpsmen to the Fleet, but also in supporting the health and wellness of those responsible for training them.

NMTSC is the Navy component command providing administrative and operational control over Navy staff and students assigned to the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) and other medical programs in the San Antonio area.
