SAN DIEGO – Army Maj. Gen. Michael Place, 18th Medical Command’s (MEDCOM) (Deployment Support) commander, visited Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) Oct. 21.
While on board NMCSD, Place met with Capt. Bradford Smith, NMCSD’s commanding officer and Capt. Konrad Davis, NMCSD’s Joint Tele-Critical Care Network medical director, to discuss the future of military healthcare and tour some of NMCSD’s telemedicine-equipped intensive care units.
Place is slated to visit military medical centers in the Pacific region to meet with leadership.
Place took command of the 18th MEDCOM (DS) earlier this year. The 18th MEDCOM (DS) is an expeditionary command that ensures mission readiness, and plans and synchronizes medical functions within integrated forces.
NMCSD’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
