CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE Q-WEST, Iraq —Soldiers from the 351st Ordnance Det., 395th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, held a pool-side barbecue at the Mirage swimming pool here Aug. 9.
"The aim for this celebration was to increase morale throughout the subordinate units of the 395th CSSB, and to improve the working relationship between the 395th CSSB and their subordinate units," said 1st Lt. Randall Holmes, commander, 351st Ord.
Nearly 50 Soldiers participated in the barbecue, which featured steak, lobster and an assortment of sides. Soldiers also watched the movie "Super Troopers" and played volleyball in the pool.
"Although the barbecue was voluntary and done after hours, it went extremely well," said Holmes.
The unit has had barbecues in the past, but this was the first time they invited guests. The 351st Ord. leadership invited numerous members of the 395th CSSB staff sections, and members of the 158th Maintenance Det.
"All of the units that participated in the barbecue enjoyed the rest and relaxation they received from attending this event, and this event increased the morale and the working relationship between the 395th CSSB and their subordinate units," said Holmes.
The 395th CSSB, an Army Reserve unit based out of New Haven, Conn., assumed authority July 11 and is on a 12-month deployment cycle.
