    USS Carl Vinson

SAN DIEGO – Operations Specialist 3rd Class Amber Huther, a native of Estero, Florida, serving aboard Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), was recognized as Vinson’s “Sailor of the Day” in a ceremony on the ship’s bridge, September 11. Huther was selected for this honor from among over 3,000 Sailors in the ship’s crew.

Huther serves as the global command and control system maritime data base manager for the operations intelligence division on Vinson, and is responsible for maintaining an accurate tactical picture for the carrier strike group. She played a crucial part in preparing her department for a search and rescue certification, which was so successful that they set a new standard for future search and rescue training events.

She graduated from Estero High School in 2012 and joined the Navy in February 2019. She has been assigned to Vinson since October 2019.

As Huther continues to serve aboard Vinson, she is thankful for the support of her family back home.

“I am grateful for everything so far and credit all my hard work and success to my family,” said Huther.
Vinson is currently pierside in its homeport of San Diego.
