SAN DIEGO – Legalman 1st Class Domingo J. Rodriguez, a native of Bellflower, California, serving aboard Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), was recognized as Vinson’s “Sailor of the Day” in a ceremony on the ship’s bridge, August 26. Rodriguez was selected for this honor from among over 3,000 Sailors in the ship’s crew.
Rodriguez serves as the legal department leading petty officer of the non-judicial punishment desk on Vinson and is responsible for the day-to-day tracking and completion of all command disciplinary matters. He created a tracking system for over 300 cases, boosting productivity and organization in his department. He also led his department in completing over 30 critical maintenance actions before getting underway.
He graduated from West Branch High School in Stevenson Ranch, California, in 2008 and joined the Navy in 2012. He has been onboard Vinson since January 2019.
As Rodriguez continues to serve aboard Vinson, he is thankful for the opportunities to excel in the Navy and the support he receives from his fellow Sailors. His advice to junior Sailors is to not just rely on yourself for the help you need.
“Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed,” said Rodriguez. “As long as you have a solid support system, you can go anywhere in the U.S. Navy.”
Vinson is currently pierside in its homeport of San Diego.
