KABUL, Afghanistan — A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated in Kandahar, Afghanistan, killing many innocent Afghans, wounding many more yesterday, Aug. 25, and another explosion killed a senior justice official in Konduz, Afghanistan, earlier today.
"The Taliban have denied responsibility for the callous attack perpetrated yesterday which caused numerous fatalities and injuries to inhabitants of Kandahar. However, the recent deadly attacks certainly have the Taliban signature: Indiscriminate, disproportionate, unpopular, irresponsible," said Brig. Gen. Eric Tremblay, the International Security Assistance Force spokesperson.
"On behalf of ISAF, I extend sincere condolences to all the families for their loss and suffering resulting from this act of terrorism."
In close cooperation with its Afghan security partners, ISAF will continue its efforts to protect the population and hope that the peaceful people of Afghanistan will identify those terrorists in their neighborhoods so the police can bring them to justice.
