A two-week Senior Gunner Course held at Camp Santiago, PR, seated 30 members from the Puerto Rico National Guard and the Virgin Islands National Guard, Aug 15 - 29, 2020. This course aimed to train noncommissioned officers to become mounted machine gunnery experts to assist commanders in planning, executing, and evaluating direct-fire platforms.

Four instructors presented the course from Fort Benning, GA. There was Sgt. 1st Class Robert L. Gray, Sgt. 1st Class Matthew S.Giles, Sgt. 1st Class Adam P. Fisher, and Staff Sgt. Michael B. Dooley. There covered an immense amount of information in a short period, along with knowledge-based tests after each lesson. The instructors were thorough and also provided the necessary materials to bring success to each soldier.

"I'm very proud of all the Senior Gunners who graduated the course. They have been tested and have proven they can do the job," stated Gray. "There are now 23 new Senior Gunners to the force, and they will share the knowledge to create a more lethal force."

Of the 23 graduates, two graduated with honors, Sgt. Esau Brooks (VING) and Sgt. Jose Torres (PRNG). They were both offered a position to be an instructor in Fort Benning, GA.

"One thing I understand with the strength and wisdom God has given me, I am not designed to fail," said Brooks. "Forward movements, increase lethality."
