William Beaumont Army Medical Center bid farewell to one command sergeant major and welcomed another during a change of responsibility ceremony held September 18 on the Northeast lawn of the main hospital campus.
The WBAMC commander, Col Michael S. Oshiki welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. Luis A. Maldonado as the command's new senior enlisted advisor by passing the colors to him, signifying the transfer of responsibility from the outgoing to the incoming command sergeant major. Col. Oshiki praised the outgoing Command Sergeant Major, Janell K. Ray for her dedication while serving as WBAMC's Senior Enlisted Advisor
On a persoal level, CSM Ray, I want to thank you for being the ultimate battle buddy. I could not have asked for a more professional partner in this command, and I can truly say that you were the driving force that has not only kept me
focused, but kept our incredibly diverse organization on the track to continued success," said Oshiki.
Oshiki continued by expressing his confidence in Maldonado's abilities and what he will bring to WBAMC's team. Maldonado comes to WBAMC after an assignment as the Tripler Army Medical Center’s Troop Command Sergeant Major and Schofield Barracks Health Clinic Sergeant Major.
Ray, who enlisted in the Army in May 1992 as a physical therapy specialist and later reclassified to combat medic in 1997, took the podium and spoke to those who supported her during her career at WBAMC.
“To all Soldiers, civilians, and leaders, and when I say leader, I am talking to every civilian and Soldier, regardless of rank, status or position in this organization. I would like to personally
thank each and every one of you for what you do every day for our Soldiers and beneficiaries,”
    said Ray.
Maldonado, who entered the Army in 1990 as a drafting specialist and reclassified to become a dental specialist, in 1995 followed Ray at the podium, stated, “I'm humbled to be the Command Sgt. Maj. of the WBAMC team and I will not let you down.”
Representatives from units across Ft. Bliss attended the ceremony and WBAMC units were represented by their senior enlisted leader in the ceremony. The in-person attendee number was limited because of the current and ongoing pandemic. A virtual livestream of the ceremony was broadcasted for family and friends who could not attend the ceremony.
After the ceremony, Soldiers and civilians took time to welcome Maldonado as the newest member of the WBAMC's team and to bid farewell to the outgoing Ray.
