FORT HOOD, Texas — Troopers from the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, "Thunder Horse," attended Staff Sgt. Jonathan Mark Glass's memorial service Aug. 14, at the Fort Hood's Red Team chapel.

Glass, who was assigned to the Thunder Horse Battalion, was reportedly driving along Stagecoach Rd. in Killeen when he lost control of his vehicle and overturned into a ditch filled with water.

"He had a talent for pushing you past your limits," said Spc. Jason Henry, one of Glass's Soldiers assigned to the 2nd Bn., 12th Cav. Regt. "So many times he was that little voice in your head saying, 'keep going; you're almost there.'"

The 26-year-old petroleum supply specialist from Xenia, Ohio, recently returned from completing his second tour in Iraq with his battalion. While deployed with the Thunder Horse troopers, Glass served as a truck commander for the lead vehicle in a combat logistics patrol platoon for a year.

"He always had a smile on his face and was willing to give up his time in order to brighten your day or help you meet a challenge," said Capt. Shawn Robertson, Co. F's commander. "He would inspire, motivate, and help you through whatever you needed. He was a winner, and failure was never an option for him."

During his five years of selfless service, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and an Overseas Service Ribbon.
