446th Education and Training office has answers
JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — Did you know that by the time you finish basic military training, technical school, and required professional military education, usually about two years in, that you already have three-quarters of an associate’s degree?
The Community College of the Air Force offers an accredited associate degree in more than 70 programs and recently announced the new addition that will include 16 Air Force career fields.
“We are excited to see the changes in the courses of study,” said Alexander Northrup, 446th Force Support Squadron, Education and Training technician. “CCAF is creating multifaceted programs for a wider field of education.”
The Military Technology and Applied Science Management degree, announced on Aug. 4, 2020 and slated for implementation in 2021, is a program made applicable to the 16 specialties that would otherwise not meet current degree program requirements.
The new degree also allows students to pursue classes in more specific topics of interest to the Department of the Air Force. These include space operations, cybersecurity, and ethical leadership. Several other changes have occurred to existing programs to allow for flexibility and interests of the students’ needs.
“The Air Force is working hard to come up with new ways to reinvigorate programs within the CCAF,” said Northrup. “They are adapting the programs to best fit the needs and interests of Airmen.”
Another piece to obtaining your CCAF degree is general education requirements. Airmen can use tuition assistance to pay for any remaining classes including general education credits, technical electives and leadership, management military studies. Reserve Citizen Airmen can also choose any accredited institution to attend. The main hub for more CCAF resources https://afvec.us.af.mil.
