AL ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq – The 42nd Regional Support Group, New Jersey National Guard, assumed responsibilities of base operating support integrator (BOS-I) operations, July 27, 2020 after conducting a relief in place/transfer of authority ceremony here.

The New Jersey Guardsmen relieved Soldiers from the 207th Regional Support Group after several days of cross training and knowledge sharing in anticipation for the transfer of authority between the two units.

The ceremony was hosted by the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve deputy commander, U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Kenneth Ekman, and held in a tent with limited personnel in attendance to conform to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.

“It is my pleasure to join you for this important event,” said Ekman. “The transfer of authority between two units so essential to the success of Operation Inherent Resolve.”

At the ceremony, Col. Robert M. Martinez, commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. John R. Hicks, senior noncommissioned officer, uncased the 42nd RSG’s unit colors signifying the completion of the transfer of authority from the 207th and assuming base command of Al Asad Air Base, and BOS-I operations here, Erbil, and Taji military complex.

After thanking the Soldiers from the 207th and their commander, Col. Jerome Jackson, Martinez addressed his Soldiers present and those watching the ceremony remotely via video teleconference.

“To the 42nd, over the last six months you have fulfilled all of our deployment readiness requirements,” said Martinez. “Your efforts culminate today, right now with this transfer of authority. It’s game time! On behalf of myself, and the rest of the command staff, we are proud of you and thank you all for getting us to this point. Nevertheless, there is a great deal to be done. Our demonstrated commitment to excellence will safeguard our success during these critical times at AAAB.”

The 42nd RSG is the senior logistics headquarters for the New Jersey Army National Guard and provides staff mission command for continuous sustainment and base life support tasks.
