Sgt. Kevin Leon, petroleum lab specialist with the 729th Quartermaster Composite Supply Company, has been working closely with school staff and nurses at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, in Baltimore, Maryland, supporting the community. Leon, originally from California, is tasked to hand out not only meals, but school work supplements for the students who did not have computers.

    Q: Time in Service

A: I have been in the Maryland National Guard for six months, now, after serving on active duty.

Q: What are you doing outside of the military?

A: I go to school full time programming, compiler theory, and design courses. My major is computer science at the University of Maryland Global Campus. There has been a lot of late nights doing homework since all this [pandemic response] started.

Q: What do you miss the most about pre-pandemic life?

A: Going out and wearing regular clothes. All I do is wear this uniform. I miss bar hopping with friends, hiking, and outdoor stuff. There have been a lot of things I realized I have been taking for granted.

Q: What keeps you motivated during trying times?

A: The people around me. I’m a people person, and I feed off the energy of others.
