The Provost Marshal’s Office aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, regularly trains new security augment force Marines to a high standard to ensure the safety of personnel on base.

U.S. Marines with PMO, Security and Emergency Services Battalion, MCB Camp Pendleton, conducted a small-arms range on Range 112A on Camp Pendleton, May 19. To ensure Marines are properly trained on the M9A1 9 mm service pistol, they were taken through the Combat Pistol Program.

The intent behind the CPP is to provide classroom, dry practice, and live-fire training on basic and combat pistol marksmanship skills, all skills that SAF Marines will need to carry out their duties with PMO.

“This training is important to make sure that if they were to have to draw their weapon and defend themselves and the people around them, that they feel comfortable and they are proficient with the weapon system,” said Sgt. Carlos Millan, the training chief with the Provost Marshal’s Office, Security and Emergency Services Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

Although COVID-19 has caused an impact on some training, PMO continues to train SAF Marines. Each Marine has required training that has to be completed before being sent to their platoons, although the training has been adjusted to comply with new regulations. All of the Marines are given the tools to be proficient in ensuring base security.

“If you ever come shoot the CPP, make sure you stay confident,” said Millian. “Make sure you don’t rush it and stay motivated.”
