CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq — Leadership of the Dhi Qar Police Department, the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division "Highlanders" and 1st Battalion, 77th Armored Regiment "Steel Tigers" got together to discuss how the units could bolster assistance efforts in Dhi Qar province.

"The policemen that work together on the various security projects have worked shoulder to shoulder with coalition forces for a year now," stated an Iraqi non-commissioned officer.

Members of the Iraqi army, the Iraqi police and coalition forces have been successful in learning to work together on security goals.

The Steel Tigers have been learning about the profession of arms while working side by side with their partners in the Iraqi army and police.

While the leadership met on this pleasant 110 degree afternoon, members of the Steel Tigers and Iraqi police Maj. Gen. Sabah's security detail played a spontaneous game of European football, or soccer in the U.S. The love of Soccer in Iraq is no secret and the Dhi Qar policemen brought the spirit to the game.

The efforts during the Soccer game served to release some stress for all the players, as well as engaging in some friendly competition. The event gave the American and Iraqi players a chance to break from the daily missions and to grow together through friendly sports competition.

"This is an opportunity to exhibit the security that has been established. It's telling them we're getting to the point of normalcy with the Iraqi security forces clearly in the lead of making sure this is a better place," stated 2nd Lt. Chad Cooper, of Peoria, Ill., currently serving with the Steel Tigers.

For those who are wondering, Cooper said, the Americans lost the game 6-0, but they are practicing for the next game.
