LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. – Due to Coronavirus Disease 2019, U.S. Air Force Air University has authorized an additional 90-day extension for Airmen enrolled in a career development course.

As a result of the retroactive policy, dated March 27, 2020, Luke AFB unit training managers are authorized to grant an additional 90-days to Airmen who are currently on a four-month extension when events beyond a student’s control prevents them from meeting the one-year time requirement.

This policy will help Luke Airmen who are impacted by COVID-19, according to the base training manager.

“Normally up to 15 Airmen can test at a time, but to comply with social distancing, that number has dropped to a maximum of three Airmen at a time,” said Master Sgt. Matthew Marcello, 56th Force Support Squadron base training manager. “The 90-day extension provides a safety net in case someone has to wait a little longer to test because of this.”

Marcello has implemented several measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the testing facility.

“Airmen no longer sign in and only show identification,” said Marcello. “Each station is thoroughly cleaned before and after testing. Supplies provided, such as pencils and calculators, are cleaned before and after use. Airmen are also placed at testing stations as far apart as possible exceeding the six-foot minimum distance. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes are also available to the Airmen for use at any time.”

Luke AFB is following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 while continuing the mission of training the world’s greatest fighter pilots and combat ready Airmen.
