The Commander, United States Special Operations Command, General Richard D. Clarke, has approved this Friday, Apr. 10, as a “Family Day” for all USSOCOM military units, which includes the 1st Special Operations Wing, Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command and all AFSOC-subordinate wings at Hurlburt Field. The intent is to give our force and families some time away from the challenges of managing the COVID-19 situation and the new stressors associated with this pandemic.

To the maximum extent possible, military members will be given the day off duty, and civilians and contractors are encouraged to take appropriate leave.

The 1st Special Operation Medical Group will continue COVID-19 related operations, but all other functions to include pharmacy, laboratory, radiology and immunizations will be closed for the day. All already-scheduled, routine appointments will be rescheduled. COVID-19 testing will be limited to morning appointments only. To schedule a test, call the appointment line at (850) 881-1020 between 7-10 a.m. For
medical concerns after 10 a.m., please call the Nurse Advice Line at 1-800-TRICARE. For medical emergencies, go to the nearest emergency room.

The Commissary, Base Exchange and Shoppette will be open normal hours, but current access restrictions remain in place. Previously identified “official business” functions will also be closed on Friday to include the Child Development Centers; all parents currently using the facility have confirmed they will not need the service on Friday.

“General Clarke has approved us all to take a much needed break from the COVID-19 response we’ve been working for the last month, and no one needs the breather more than our medical professionals,” said Col.
Mike Conley, 1st Special Operations Wing commander.
“There has also been a large contingent of personnel across Hurlburt Field who’ve put in long, hard hours over the past month maintaining essential missions, both from the installation and via telework. This weekend is an opportunity for us all to decompress for few days, to catch our breath and focus on the health and the well-being of our loved ones.”

Mission essential functions will resume previously advertised operations on Monday, Apr. 13.
