FORT KNOX, Ky. - On April 9th, current HHC commander, Capt. Mark Schneider, quietly handed over command to Capt. Keita Rodgers, foregoing a formal ceremony and displaying their commitment to the wellbeing of troops assigned to their formation.

Traditionally the ceremony is a time to reflect on the accomplishments of the outgoing commander.

“It is apparent that Capt. Schneider and the Spartan formation have contributed immensely to 1st TSC's overall mission,” said Lt. Col. James L. Crocker, 1st STB, 1st TSC Commander. “His company has performed extraordinarily well during this difficult time. His direct leadership and steady hand have proven invaluable,” he said.

Commanders are charged with accomplishing their company’s mission and ensuring the wellbeing of their Soldiers but great leaders recognize that it takes a team of teams to be successful.

“I want to thank Lt. Col. Crocker for the opportunity to serve as the HHC Commander,” said Schneider. “I would also like to thank my first sergeants, 1st Sgt. Paul Gomez and 1st Sgt. Tammy Belcher, and my executive officers, 1st Lt. Dylan McHugh and 1st Lt. Kristin Turner, for their outstanding dedication to the service members and the mission in the 1st TSC. Thank you to the company, battalion, SFRG, and TSC staff for all your hard work and support, I will remember you all,” said Schneider.

In his final remarks Schneider expressed the impact he hoped to have as a company commander.

“Just as the scouts believe in leaving an area better than they found it, I believe in leaving people better than I found them, and I hope I accomplished this goal,” said Schneider. “Thank you. Spartan 6 signing off.”

A change of command brings with it new leadership and additional experience which helps organizations grow and continue to develop.

“As we say farewell to Capt. Schneider, we also welcome Capt. Keita Rodgers and his wife Lyndsie to the Spartan Team,” said Crocker. “Capt. Rodgers has served in the First

Team over the past several months in the G4. He undoubtedly brings a breadth of experiences and ideas into the unit as he takes charge.”
Rodgers admitted he was humbled and grateful for the faith entrusted in him by the leadership of the 1st TSC and looks forward to serving the Soldiers of the 1st TSC as the HHC Commander.

“As we stand in the middle of change, it is important that we remember, the ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in the moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand in times of challenge and controversy,” said Rodgers.

“I am here to guide you through that challenge and controversy. Together we will prevail. Spartan 6 signing on," he added.
