WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., – (March 31, 2020) – The Florida National Guard unit 53rd Brigade Support Battalion assists in the new COVID-19 testing site, open today, at the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The 53rd Brigade Support Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Christopher Buckley, shares that his Soldiers are adequately prepared to assist in any way that they can.

“Considering this is a community-based operation, years of training and responding to events, such as hurricanes and wildfires, have given these Soldiers a lot of experience with responding to communities in need,” said Buckley. “The National Guard plays a different role at every testing site, and we’ll continue doing so to helps the communities in need.”

The junior enlisted members of the 53rd BSB share that working with all the personnel at the testing site has been a successful endeavor.

“I’ve been with this unit for about six months now,” said Pfc. Steve Nguyen, a Florida National Guard Soldier with the 53rd BSB. “This is my first state active duty, and I’ve got to say, I’m really impressed. All of us were called to serve only a day before the operation, but everything has gone very smoothly. Everyone is working together so well, and the medical staff really knows what they’re doing. It really motivates us to see everything working so well.”

Jimmy Beno, the Logistics Brach Chief for emergency management in Palm Beach County, shares his thoughts on the relationship of Palm Beach County with the Florida National Guard.

“Working with the National Guard has been fantastic,” said Beno. “It’s truly been a partnership. They’ve been very supportive and helpful, both with advice and manpower. They’re up to date with the best practices, so they really know what they’re doing.”

The 53rd BSB is helping civilian personnel in Palm Beach County to assist with directing vehicles, and providing the necessary manpower necessary to complete the mission.
