REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. – The Army Materiel Command enterprise welcomed a new resource management director who will be responsible for overseeing more than $500 billion annually for the command.
Christina Freese was appointed as a member of the Senior Executive Service during a ceremony March 11 at AMC headquarters.
“Freese represents the commitment, competence and high character that makes a great leader,” Gen. Gus Perna, AMC commanding general, said during the ceremony.
Freese will serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Resource Management, G-8, for AMC where she will be responsible for the ethical and efficient use of the command’s budget.
“As a member of the senior executive service, the Army holds you accountable for things others are not able to do,” Perna said. “The ability to think bigger than your organization and long-term is what sets you apart from everyone else.”
There are 297 Senior Executive Service members across the service, which is less than one tenth of one percent of the Army’s 300,000 civilian employees.
“It is natural to ask: how did this happen, how did I get here?” Freese said to the audience of family members, co-workers and mentors. “It is all of you who helped me get here today.”
The purpose of the Senior Executive Service was to create a group of top executives composed of members with outstanding leadership skills, common values, and a deep understanding of the U.S. government.
Starting her career as a Clerk-Typist general schedule (GS-3), Freese has worked her way up through the ranks during a 30-year career.
Most recently Freese served as the business director for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Engineering Support Center, Huntsville, Alabama. As business director she was the senior advisor to the commander on policies, strategic plans and actions with oversight of Human Capital Management, Strategic Planning, Quality Management, Value Engineering and Continuous Process Improvement functions.
Prior to joining the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Freese served as Director, Resource Management, G-8 for the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command. She was responsible for life-cycle management of a worldwide portfolio that touched 36 states and nine countries, including over 9,200 military and civilian employees with a direct budget of $4 billion annually.
