Story by Petty Officer 3rd Class Samantha Jenkins

    Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic

Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic (CNAL) was awarded the 2019 Naval Support Activity (NSA) Hampton Road’s 2019 Captain's Cup at the base gym, Feb. 28.

The annual Captain's Cup sports program consists of a variety of team and individual sport events and tournaments held throughout the year for registered NSA Hampton Road’s commands.

With each event, teams and individuals earn points for their respective command, with different point values associated with various placements. The command with the most points at the end of the year is awarded the Captain's Cup trophy.

“I learned that teamwork and a game plan can go a long way,” said Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Kyle Wilson, a member of CNAL’s team. “You can see when things are working on a team and when things are not working on a team and if you get it right you can win!”

The CNAL team participated in every event that was held. This included table tennis, free throw and 3-point shootout contests, racquetball, a hoops skills challenge, softball, basketball, volleyball, flag football, a bench press competition and a titan challenge.

CNAL’s team earned a total of 307 points; they had a lead of 57 points.

Wilson said the CNAL team wanted to win to see the CNAL banner hanging in the main gym on base. He said he is glad to see that we came together and opereated as a team.

The purpose of the Captain’s Cup program is to give Sailors the opportunity to participate in planned activities intended to promote physical fitness and well-being while ultimately building morale and camaraderie both on and off the field.

Gabriel Anteh, a member of CNAL’s team, invites everyone to participate in the next Captain’s Cup compition. He said it is a great opprotunity to go outside and meet everybody at the command.
