JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C.—Cadets from the Charleston Civil Air Patrol toured Joint Base Charleston, Feb. 15, 2019, to strengthen partnerships between Civil Air Patrol and the U.S. Air Force
Tech Sgt. Austin Barkdolle, a C-17 Globemaster III airframe propulsion generator craftsman from the 373rd Training Squadron, Detachment 5, was the lead maintenance Airman for the tour.
“Today is the first time that CAP and the the 373rd TRS have been able to come together and train and provide the uniformed service side of maintenance and aircrew together we’re trying to explain the importance of one is just as important as the other,” said Barkdolle.
“It’s important to give back to the community we have so much to give them we have $142 million dollars worth of trainers. We have a lot to provide whether its training or just delivering information to these students.”
Airmen from the 373rd Training Squadron, Detachment 5, showed cadets various flight simulators and gave them hands on instruction.
The Civil Air Patrol is a federally funded volunteer organization that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. CAP performs three congressionally assigned key missions including the emergency services, aerospace education and cadet programs for teenage youth.
There are plans to expand the visits to quarterly in an effort to expose cadets to multiple career fields that help support the operations on Joint Base Charleston.
