Fourth of July Bash held air Beaufort Air Station

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION BEAUFORT, S.C. -- Colleton River Plantation, a private gated community in Bluffton, hosted its sixth annual Fourth of July celebration, Saturday, at its Nicklaus Clubhouse.

For the last four years the Colleton River Plantation has extended invitations for the event to the local military population. Approximately 40 military members and their families attended the event, and over half of them were from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 312.

"Originally the event was for members of the Colleton River Plantation Club," Spivey said. "Our community supports the military. We invite them as thanks for the sacrifices that they and their family make every day."

Approximately 650 members and their families, attended the event in addition to 40 military members and their families at the Clubhouse.

"Every year the amount of people increases," said Brandon White, a server at the Nicklaus Clubhouse.

According to Spivey, the Fourth of July celebration turned out to be enjoyable for everyone, no matter the age. With attractions for children and adults, Colleton River Plantation had a recipe for success.

"The experience was great," said Sgt. Nathan Novotny, a maintenance controller with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 312. "The staff and members were very hospitable, my family and I were treated great and we had a great time."

"The goal was to provide family fun," Spivey said. "For the children we had obstacle courses, rock climbing walls, carnival games, mini golf and contests."

"For the adult members," Spivey added. "There were bars, D.J. entertainment and golf competitions."

According to Spivey, with all of the attractions, guests were surely going to work up an appetite. Therefore, servers at the Clubhouse prepared many kinds of food, with a selection ranging from fresh fruits and cookies to tender ribs and hamburgers.

"There was a lot of time and effort put into the meals," White said. "All the hard work pays off when you see the satisfied looks on the guests' faces."

"The food tasted amazing," Novotny said. "All the meals were fresh and the selection was plentiful."
The night was capped with "oooooh's" and "ahhhhh's" by the crowd as bright fireworks burst in the Lowcountry sky. According to Novotny, the amazing fireworks display was a fitting end to a great day.
