    Joint Multinational Readiness Center

HOHENFELS, GERMANY- U.S. Soldiers assigned to Dakota Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment loaded several M113 Armored Personnel Carriers during Combined Resolve XIII (CBRXIII) at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels, Germany, Jan. 28, 2020.

Soldiers moved quickly to meet their mission objective, moving tactically to the designated area to seize an objective from the opposing force.

“My favorite part of being opposition force is the ability to see how that battle unfolds from the opposite side,” said Sgt. Joshua Rowe, Dakota Company Platoon Sergeant.

For better real-world training, JMRC uses laser engagement system gear to track simulated shots fired. Flashing lights on vehicles or beeping noises on individual vests let Soldiers know when they have been hit.

“We know what (the training units) want to do, and when we throw a curveball at them, it’s good to see how they react,” said Rowe.

The exercise proves that through complex training and the use of world-class opposition forces, the U.S., NATO partner and allied nations are more capable than ever before.

D Co. advanced on their objective to capture a simulated town where they encountered several camouflaged M1A2 Abrams tanks. They fell short of their mission as they were disabled by the friendly force element.

“It teaches you to work within your squad, and we get to actually practice our battle drills,” said Rowe.

D Co. is a professional opposition force for the multinational units that are participating in CBRXIII. They continually train throughout the year for this exercise.

Exercise Combined Resolve XIII allows allies and partners to connect - personally, professionally, technically and tactically - to create a stronger unified force during times of crisis.
