Ohio adjutant general elected as the President of the Adjutants General Association of the United States
COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Adjutants General Association of the United States on June 4 elected Maj. Gen. Gregory L. Wayt, Ohio adjutant general, as its new president.
AGAUS is comprised of the 54 adjutants general of the sovereign states, territories and the District of Columbia. The adjutant general is the senior military official in his or her state, territory or district and is the modern embodiment of the concepts of the citizen-Soldier and protector of the checks and balances between the state and federal military functions that are rooted in the U.S. Constitution.
The AGAUS represents the senior leadership of the Army and Air National Guards of the 50 states, territories (Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and the District of Columbia. The National Guard has the 11th largest Army in the world and the 5th largest Air Force. It represents 38 percent of the total U.S. military force structure and more than 458,000 personnel serving in 3,600 communities throughout the country.
"I'm honored to have been selected to represent my peers and lead this extraordinary organization," Wayt said. "The National Guard is more relevant today than perhaps anytime in its history and I'm excited for the opportunity to help mold and facilitate our collective organizations and help ensure we always maintain that relevance."
Wayt recently held the position of Vice President for Army in the AGAUS.
