PITI, Guam (Jan. 30, 2019) – Sailors assigned to Commander, Submarine Squadron Fifteen (CSS-15) spoke to students about professions available in the Navy during a career day at Jose L.G. Rios Middle School in Piti, Guam, Jan. 30.

Sailors attended the event to increase student awareness and interests in various career opportunities and encourage the children to plan their future by researching career choices.

Lt. Aaron Spencer, the Staff Judge Advocate General for CSS-15, spoke to the importance of showing students the different career paths military service has to offer.

"It’s important for children of this age to understand the opportunities they have available to them" said Spencer, a native of LaBelle, Florida. “The Navy provides many career opportunities in the mathematics, science, and engineering fields. However, we also have professions that cater to one’s creativity and most students aren’t aware of that.”

Service members set up static displays, which included standard issue firefighting gear, thermal imaging devices, and medical training aids to give the kids some hands-on experience with military equipment.

Fire Control Technician 2nd Class Adam Breault, a native of San Diego, talked to the students about the training, dedication, and discipline it takes to work in the submarine community.

“I hope that we were able to motivate some of the students today,” said Breault. “Even if they chose not to pursue the military as a career, I hope that we set them on a path of accomplishing their goals in the future.”

The career day was the 13th annual event for the middle school. Sailors and service members from Naval Hospital Guam, 302nd Quartermaster Company, Guam National Guard, University of Guam ROTC, and the 168th Air Refueling Wing stationed out of Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska were all in attendance.

CSS-15 is located at Polaris Point, Naval Base Guam in Piti, Guam, and consists of four Los Angeles-class fast attack submarines. The squadron staff is responsible for providing training, material and personnel readiness support to these commands. Also based out of Naval Base Guam are submarine tenders USS Frank Cable (AS 40) and USS Emory S. Land (AS 39). The submarines and tenders are maintained as part of the U.S. Navy's forward-deployed submarine force and are readily capable of meeting global operational requirements.
