MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — Col. Thomas B. Eipp assumed command of Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group during a change of command ceremony held at the 11 Area parade field.

Col. John M. Schultz took command of Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group October 2007. Almost two years later, he handed over control to a new commander with the passing of the CLR-1 colors, June 30.

Eipp, 45, from Sonoma, Calif., relieved Schultz, who will continue his duty with the Advisor Training Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force for subsequent deployment as Team Chief, 7th Iraqi Army Division, Military Transition Team.

Eipp served at U.S. Northern Command as the logistics operations branch chief in the J-4 prior to assuming command of CLR-1.

During the ceremony, Schultz, 49, from Allentown, Pa., spoke of his appreciation for the Marines, Sailors and their families during his command of CLR-1.

"As my tour with CLR-1 draws to a close, I want to thank the Marines and Sailors who have served these past two years under my command during combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan," Schultz said. "I know I'm not the easiest person to work for but you Marines and sailors got the job done every time."

Schultz stated he was glad that Eipp was selected as the new commanding officer of CLR-1 and that no one is better qualified for the position. He also shared that Eipp brings a wealth of knowledge to the unit and will take CLR-1 to great places.

"My wife Bonnie, my son Justin and I are extremely happy about coming back to Southern California," Eipp said. "I look forward to serving with the Marines and Sailors of CLR-1."

The change of command ceremony included the passing of the colors, remarks from the commanding officers and a performance by the 1st Marine Division band.
