ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England – Approximately 250 Child and Youth Program providers from Royal Air Force Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Alconbury participated in childcare training Jan. 25, here.
The objective of the session was to provide additional education on the unique aspects of military life and certify staff training compliance with standards of health, safety, developmental programming, and child abuse prevention.
“This annual training is vital to ensuring our providers are qualified to ensure children are properly cared for,” said T. Bonita Jones, 48th Force Support Squadron Child and Youth Services Flight chief. “Creating a safe and thriving environment that fosters child development allows our Airmen to focus on the mission and maintain readiness.”
Participants had the opportunity to learn and enhance their knowledge in various areas of childcare while networking with each other and several Liberty Wing helping agencies.
According to Jones, the providers gained a greater understanding of the reason child and youth programs are offered on the base.
“Our primary wing mission is to provide worldwide responsive combat airpower and support and we can’t achieve that mission without prioritizing the wellbeing of our Airmen and their families,” said Col. William Marshall, 48th Fighter Wing commander. “The work our Force Support Squadron is doing for the Liberty Wing and our USAF partners throughout the UK ensures our Airmen remain postured and ready to deter aggression and secure the sovereign skies.”
