ScootersAF is one of eight innovations selected out of 143 submissions for the 2020 Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center Innovation Rodeo.
1st Lt. Steven Brandt’s, 48th Contracting Squadron services flight commander, idea leverages the resources and integration of commercial companies to give the Air Force a solution for parking and
transportation shortages for Airmen on base.
“I came up with the innovation mostly from traveling around and seeing the different commercial options for scooters,” said Brandt. “I also realized a couple months ago when talking with CE that there were going to be potential parking issues in the future due to all the construction going on with bringing the F-35s here.”
Brandt said having this project funded would address lack of mobility for Airmen, parking and traffic issues for future and on-going construction, and environmental concerns all around.
“It’s basically a micro-mobility transportation option for people to have an alternative for going short distances during the day,” said Brandt. “It’s mainly geared toward Airmen in the dorms and people who are in transit, but anyone on base can use these every day when going to lunch, the post office or running other errands.”
Brandt said it’s not just a quality of life improvement, but a practical improvement for the efficiency of people on base.
Brandt heads to Joint-Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas in the beginning of February for a week-long conference where he will refine and work on his presentation for the Air Force Installation Contracting Center.
