Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Directorate of Emergency Services Lt. Jason Padgett was presented the Garrison Commander Award of Excellence (Category 1), Dec. 3 on Fort Stewart.

Garrison commander, Col. Bryan Logan and Garrison Command Sgt. Major Rebecca Myers, were on-hand to present the award to Padgett in the presence of his peers at Fire Station No. 1.

“It is the epitome of heroes to go above and beyond the call of duty,” Logan said. “But you here (firefighters) do that every day.”

Logan said Padgett distinguished himself not only as firefighter but as a professional. Looking for opportunities to improve the esprit de corps of his team and his Family.

“That helps improve our entire community,” Logan said. “I truly appreciate everything you do.”

Padgett is among the 82 civilian firefighters, supported by Soldiers with the 24th Ordnance Company and 514th Engineer Detachment, who all strive to maintain six fire stations across the installation - helping protect nearly 50,000 square miles.

Padgett, a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, has been a firefighter for more than 13 years starting with his first career in the Navy Reserve.

Although they were not present Dec. 3, other recipients of the award was Dr. Robin Ellert, the workforce development specialist with the garrison headquarters (Category 2) and Marvina Lewis, a supervisory program specialist with the Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s Child and Youth Services(Category 3).
