ZAGAN, Poland - A number of U.S. Soldiers with the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division (forward) of Fort Hood, Texas joined Polish citizens in front of City Hall for a Christmas lighting ceremony as the city kicked off its holiday season on December 6.
The city welcomed everyone and emphasized appreciation for the attendance of the deployed United States Soldiers.
The hour-long program starred Santa Claus and featured acrobats, reindeer, elves and a singing snow queen whom towered above the entire holiday spectacle. It also included musical performances of many English and Polish holiday classics. Additionally, circus trapeze elements, a fire breathing fairy tale character and Santa's helpers all interacted with each other in the Polish Christmas story that unfolded over the course of an hour.
At the conclusion of the program, Mayor Andrzej Katarzyniec, led a joint countdown of the Christmas tree lighting at the fountain of Mikolaj. The unveiling of the lighted Christmas tree was the culmination of the holiday festivities.
Santa, his reindeer and elves handed out candies, gifts for the children and wished everyone well.
