JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The 628th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department hosted members of the Center for Public Safety Excellence’s Commission on Fire Accreditation International at the firehouse on Joint Base Charleston, S.C. Dec. 3 - 6, 2019.
The CPSE is responsible for accrediting safety agencies at the local, state and federal level to ensure the agencies they are inspecting operate at the highest level possible, and identifying any areas where improvements can be made.
“Reaccreditation is very important to our firehouse,” said Tech. Sgt. William Parente, a firefighter assigned to the 628th CES Fire Department. “It helps ensure that we are providing the best service possible to Joint Base Charleston.”
The 628th CES Fire Department has achieved the goal twice already and is seeking accreditation from the agency for a third time. Each accreditation period is valid for up to five years.
“Our accreditation process ensures that the departments we visit are operating efficiently.” said Steven Lambert, CFAI chief accreditation auditor. “We evaluate departments on their processes and procedures to handle an array of situations such as fire suppression, emergency medical services and maintaining equipment.”
In order to be reaccredited, the 628th CES Fire Department had to submit over 400 pages of documentation for review and get tested on more than 80 core competencies of fire protection and other emergency services procedures by the accreditation commission. The data will be reviewed at the CPSE 2020 Excellence Conference in March where the determination will be made.
