FORT LEE, Va. – The commissary at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, ushered in its new internet shopping, curbside pickup service Dec. 2 with the base commanding officer touting its benefits for Marines and their families.

“I’m all about finding a way to improve a process, and this new service will positively impact the lives of those in our community,” said Col. William C. Bentley III, Quantico commanding officer. Bentley gave his comments during a CLICK2GO startup ceremony held inside the commissary.

Bentley, who was also the first CLICK2GO customer, predicted that families with young children will especially find the service attractive, which is a notion that Meralie Ervin, the commissary store director, also cites.

“Families with young children for sure can benefit from CLICK2GO because it eliminates having to go inside the store,” Ervin said. “In fact, anyone pressed for time can find that shopping for groceries online and dropping by at an appointed time to pick them up is something worth working into their lifestyle.”

Customers use a computer or mobile device to make their orders online. Authorized shoppers access CLICK2GO through the agency’s customer portal, MyCommissary.com (https://commissaries.com/rewards-and-savings/mycommissary). An initial sign-up is required the first time users access the site.

Once in CLICK2GO, patrons select from commissary products offered online based on the store’s stock assortment. After products are selected, the shopper selects a pickup time and completes the checkout process. They park in designated CLICKGO parking spaces where commissary workers bring their groceries and complete the transactions.

Willie Watkins, the Defense Commissary Agency’s eBusiness chief, was there for the startup and said the Quantico service was off to a good start, joining three other commissaries that offer the new shopping option. CLICK2GO started this spring in Virginia, first at Fort Eustis, next at Naval Air Station Oceana, and in September at Fort Belvoir. It is scheduled to expand in March to the McGuire Air Force Base Commissary in New Jersey.

As part of an introductory offer, Quantico CLICK2GO services will be free during the first 30 days of operation. After that a $4.95 service fee will be applied for each order as it is at other CLICK2GO locations.
