PORTSMOUTH, Va. (Nov. 26, 2019) Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s (NMCP) Clinical Investigation Department (CID) staff members deliver donated items to the Fisher House on Nov. 26. Each year, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, CID staff members conduct a non-perishable item donation drive. The CID staff also invites Fisher House residents to join their annual holiday luncheons.

“The goal is to provide NMCP patients’ family members an opportunity to momentarily set aside their concerns and enjoy food and fellowship with the CID family,” said Thomas Rieg, the CID research director.

The Fisher House is a home-away-from-home for family members of seriously ill or injured patients receiving treatment at NMCP. The home is available for active duty or retired military families coping with a medical crisis of a loved one and who have no local accommodations.

As the U.S. Navy's oldest, continuously-operating military hospital since 1830, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth proudly serves past and present military members and their families. The nationally-acclaimed, state-of-the-art medical center, along with the area's 10 branch health and
TRICARE Prime Clinics, provide care for the Hampton Roads area. The medical center also supports premier research and teaching programs designed to prepare new doctors, nurses and hospital corpsman for future roles in healing and wellness.
