The 48th Contracting Squadron participated in the London Stansted Airport Meet the Buyers event in Stansted, England, Nov. 5, 2019.

This annual engagement provides organizations and contractors with a unique opportunity and cost-effective method of presenting their products and services directly to major first-tier contractors.

According to 1st Lt. Steven Brandt, 48th CONS Services flight commander, these types of sessions support Department of Defense acquisitions principles and ensure the Liberty Wing can buy supplies and equipment needed to get the mission done.

“The Meet the Buyers event connected the 48th CONS to over 200 different companies from around the greater London area,” said Brandt. “These events improve our relationships with potential contractors and improve our standing in the local community.”

This is a distinctive occasion for both the 48th Fighter Wing and civilian contractors to get the chance to talk about potential business partnerships and ideas.

“It’s a great opportunity to get into something you might not normally have,” said Matthew Day, event attendee and business development manager from a local company. “You can’t just drop by the base because of security reasons, but this forum is valuable in helping us connect, communicate and coordinate with the Air Force.”

Over 35 buyers took part in this year’s event with tables set up to accommodate appointments with prospective contractors.

“Good business needs good relationships,” said Brandt. “More suppliers means more competition. More competition generally leads to higher quality and taxpayer dollars saved.”
