Joint Force Headquarters - Nebraska National Guard

LINCOLN, Neb. – Chief Master Sgt. Jeffrey A. Horne assumed responsibility as the Nebraska Air National Guard’s eighth senior enlisted leader in a ceremony Nov. 2 after Chief Master Sgt. Tyrone Bingham relinquished the title of state command chief and retired following more than 24 years of military service.

More than 150 Airmen, Soldiers, family and friends gathered in the Nebraska National Guard Joint Force Headquarters atrium to see Horne become responsible for the welfare, readiness, morale, development and care for the Nebraska Air National Guard enlisted personnel based in Lincoln and at Offutt Air Force Base.

Prior to his current position, Horne served as the 155th Air Refueling Wing command chief where he served as the advisor to the commander and staff on all matters regarding the more than 800 Air National Guard enlisted Citizen Airmen assigned to the wing.
“Chief Horne, you are the right for this job person and everything we’ve seen points to you being more than prepared and ready to become the state command chief,” said Maj. Gen. Daryl Bohac, Nebraska adjutant general and presiding official for the ceremony. “We might work on the fourth-floor of the JFHQ, but we can’t lead from there. Expect to be busy, expect to be out amongst the Airmen engaging with them to ensure they have the resources and time they need to deliver readiness and lethality.”

Horne brings more than 34 years of Citizen-Airman experience to the position. The chief enlisted in the Nebraska Air National Guard in 1985 and served in the fire protection career field for more than 20 years and deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

“I intend to keep an open and honest dialogue to ensure the voices of our enlisted are heard,” Horne said. “The Nebraska Air National Guard has a proud legacy and is ready to respond when needed domestically and abroad. I will do everything I can to make sure you have everything you need to accomplish the mission.”

After the change of responsibility ceremony, Bohac officiated the retirement of Bingham who spent more than two decades serving in uniform.

“You have served with distinction, honor and integrity,” Bohac said. “I am grateful for your service and your commitment to the men and women of the Nebraska National Guard.”

Prior to his stint as the highest-ranking enlisted member in the Nebraska Air National Guard, Bingham served as the enlisted superintendent of the Nebraska Air National Guard’s 170th Group, which is located at Offutt Air Force Base and supports the active Air Force’s 55th Wing.

In his farewell remarks, Bingham noted that during the course of a career spanning more than two decades, there was a single constant.

“Considering all the innovations and changes in technology I’ve seen during my time, what has always stayed constant is the strength of the enlisted force,” Bingham said. “Serving as your state command chief has been an honor.”
