CRANE, Ind. - Crane Army Ammunition Activity collaborated with Joint Munitions Command and other installations in the Organic Industrial Base to help synchronize the continued path ahead for business-decision data sharing and storage at a three-day workshop here Oct. 22-24.
Workshop participants comprise the Organic Industrial Base Performance Working Group, a team dedicated to identifying and addressing gaps in data accuracy for the OIB, the depots and arsenals that provide ammunition and other hardware for warfighters.
Katie Crotty, JMC Planning Director, explained the importance of accurate data in the overall decision-making process.
“Data feeds every business decision that we make,” Crotty said. “Making sure that we are addressing the error in it or the misunderstanding of it, to me is the most important. This forum showed where we have gaps.”
The working group will meet regularly to continuously update and synchronize the systems used for data processing and optimize the way they use data management systems already on hand.
Representatives from Letterkenny Munitions Center, Bluegrass Ammunition Depot, Tooele Ammunition Depot, McAllester Army Ammunition Plant, Anniston Ammunitions Depot, and Pine Bluff Arsenal joined the innovative team. All are members of the Organic Industrial Base.
Crane Army Planning Programs Supervisor Courtney Byers said the group provided valuable feedback in a joint environment and offered an active way to address problems.
“It was good to get all of the feedback from the other sites and from JMC,” Byers said. “This had been a long time coming.”
Chuck Yager, CAAA’s continuous process improvement manager, explained how the workshop’s process helped everyone work together.
“As we start going through the process, you see people fighting for their positions,” Yager said. “That’s because they have a passion for what they do. They want to make a difference. Then in the last stage everyone is on the same sheet of music. They are performing together. That’s when you have your ‘a-ha’ moment.”
Crane Army Commander Col. Stephen Dondero expressed how the benefits of the OIB Working Group could have lasting effects on decision-making across the Organic Industrial Base.
“These collaborative efforts enhance common understanding, trust, and ultimately facilitate informed decision making,” Dondero said. I’m proud of the work and efforts accomplished in this setting and I’m excited to see how this will impact future processes.”
Crane Army Ammunition Activity produces and provides conventional munitions requirements in support of U.S. Army and Joint Force readiness. It is one of 17 installations of the Joint Munitions Command and one of 23 organic industrial bases under the U.S. Army Materiel Command, which include arsenals, depots, activities and ammunition plants. Established Oct. 1977, it is located on Naval Support Activity Crane.
