    USS Normandy (CG 60)

GULF OF OMAN – Guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG60) conducted boardings of multiple dhows and skiffs in the Gulf of Oman Oct. 18-23.
Normandy conducted routine maritime security operations, under the tactical control of Commander Task Force 55, leading to the seizure of an undisclosed amount of amphetamines.
“We have trained for a long time to conduct missions such as these,” said Lt. John Sefcik, Normandy’s boarding officer.
Sefcik and his seven person boarding team were augmented by an intelligence specialist and a linguist.
“These operations led to conditions that enhance trust, cooperation and mutual respect,” said Capt. Chris Stone, commanding officer of Normandy. “We are committed to our partner nations in the region. Events like these ensure the waterways of 5th Fleet are open to the legal free flow of commerce.”
Normandy, homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, is deployed in the U.S. Fifth Fleet area of responsibility as part of a scheduled deployment.
