2nd ABCT "Black Jack" Brigade Assumes Authority of Atlantic Resolve
ZAGAN, Poland - The 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division and the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, held a transfer of authority ceremony on October 28.
The transfer of authority ceremony marks the start of the 2nd ABCT, 1st Cavalry Division, taking over Atlantic Resolve operations. The "Black Jack" Brigade will continue the rigorous, multi-faceted training with the Army's allies and partners to ensure the presence of a ready and lethal force throughout Europe.
"I will fight anywhere at any time with you, and I hope you feel the same about me and the ‘Devil’ Brigade Combat Team. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with such a well trained and disciplined armored force. Duty first, Devils," said outgoing commander, Col. Paul T. Krattiger.
Atlantic Resolve operations are completed across the country of Poland with the joint assistance of Polish military Soldiers. The two nations continue working together to enhance and streamline military operations.
"I am really proud to be brothers in arms. You've spent countless days away from your families, but it is an essential part of a Soldier's duty and life. On one hand, it is truly a sad moment because we have to say goodbye to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, on the other hand, we are very happy and honored to welcome 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. We are deeply grateful that you have been serving here and worked to strengthen Polish and American military cooperation," said Brig. Gen. Piotr Zurawski, Principal Advisor to the commander of Polish General Command.
The 1st ABCT, 1st Infantry Division accomplished its missions by building and strengthening partnerships with allied forces and communities that will serve present and future Soldiers well as they build upon the solid foundation of their predecessors. Soldiers of the "Devil" Brigade will now be returning to Fort Riley, Kansas.
The "Devil" Brigade operated in seven different countries, and conducted six international training events in conjunction with our allied partners to ensure stability and deter our enemies from any aggression.
Moving forward, the 2nd ABCT, 1st Cavalry Division will continue ongoing European operations.
"We follow several legendary brigades in this effort, and it's not lost on us that we have some very large shoes to fill. Devil - SIX, thanks for the great transition. To our partners, this is the most lethal brigade combat team in the Army today. The leaders of the Soldiers that reside in the formations represented here are prepared to continue the mission. It's time to get to work, see you on the high ground," said incoming commander, Col. Jeremy S. Wilson.
A U.S. Army rotational presence ensures interoperability and enables European allies and partners to globally deploy their forces alongside Americans for the common good and security of all involved.
