Trick-or-treating is scheduled to be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019 within housing areas at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico.

The 377th Security Forces Squadron ‘Pumpkin Patrol’ will be policing the housing area to ensure safety for all those who are trick-or-treating.

“Pumpkin Patrols will be foot patrols in the village housing area actively ensuring trick-or-treaters safety by monitoring vehicle speeds along with an increased neighborhood presence,” said U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Ryan Hughes, 377th SFS Alpha Flight commander.

With increased activity in the housing areas, it is recommended that drivers be extra careful while operating a vehicle.

“Speed limits will remain the same,” said Hughes. “We do recommend driving at a slower speed and having an increased sense of situational awareness.”

Being aware extends to individuals beyond those driving. The 377th Air Base Wing Safety office asks parents and children participating in trick-or-treating activities to remain as visible as possible.

“Ensure kids costumes have reflective materials incorporated into their costumes, have flashlights or glow sticks,” said Richard Peterson, 377th ABW Safety safety occupational and health specialist. “Basically they need to be seen.”

According to Hughes, there are not any off limit areas for trick-or-treating, but reminds parents to keep an eye on their children.

“Remember to drive the speed limits, be aware of your surroundings, supervise your children, and have fun,” said Hughes.

To report an emergency or notice something unusual, Hughes asks that foot patrol be notified or the Law Enforcement Desk called at 505-846-7913.
