Airman from the Iowa Air National Guard took part in the pre-game activities performing a flyover at the Iowa State University and Oklahoma State University football game in Ames, Iowa on Saturday.
Air Guard members from the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City, Iowa crewed a U.S. Air Force KC-135 Statotanker aircraft as part of the flyover at Jack Trice Stadium prior to the National Football league match-up. The units KC-135’s are used primarily for mid-air refueling.
Event flyovers at large public events are part of the U.S. Air Force aerial events program that demonstrate U.S. military preparedness, promote community relations, support Air Force recruiting and retention efforts and render military honors.
Prior to the end of the game pilots and crew members from Sioux City were honored on the field for their military service.
